Arrowhead Game Studios CEO Shams Jorjani has recently confirmed that the studio does not have any plans for a Helldivers 2 sequel. While this information may initially seem disappointing to gamers expecting the release of a possible Helldivers 3, it’s actually good news for Helldivers 2 players, as it means that the title will continue to receive updates for a long time.
Helldivers 2 is a cooperative third-person shooter released in 2024. While the title was initially available only for PS5 and PC, it eventually received an Xbox Series X/S release earlier in 2025. The Xbox release made Helldivers 2 surge in popularity again, nearly tripling its total concurrent player count after the launch.
Arrowhead Will Continue Updating Helldivers 2 As Long as Possible
Arrowhead’s CEO, Shams Jorjani, has recently talked about the future of the Helldivers franchise in a Discord post (spotted by GamesRadar). According to Jorjani, there are no plans for Helldivers 3, as the studio wants to keep coming up with fresh updates for the current game for a long time. Jorjani compared Helldivers 2 to RuneScape, which was originally released around 25 years ago, and simply kept going with more updates, essentially turning the title into a “forever game” and expanding it over time. Jornani’s opinion is not entirely new, though, as other Arrowhead developers have already indicated that they plan to support Helldivers 2 for years to come.
Proof that Arrowhead is serious about supporting the game is that Helldivers 2 already had three updates in September 2025. Two of them were fairly minor hotfixes, but the main Helldivers 2 update was Into the Unjust, which added new enemies, Hive Worlds, fresh missions, and more.
Recent leaks have also indicated that Helldivers 2 will add major customization features in the future. These upcoming features include color customization for ships, armor, and weapons. However, gamers should obviously take these rumors with a grain of salt, as there’s still no official announcement.
While adding more content is always great, Helldivers 2 will likely also have to fix some issues to become the forever game Jorjani intends. Helldivers 2’s Steam reviews are currently “Mixed” when only considering the past 30 days, mostly due to performance issues that the popular co-op shooter is having on PC. Arrowhead has already said that it’s aware of these problems and is currently working to improve the stability and performance of the title. However, there’s no official timeline for these problems to be fixed. Hopefully, Arrowhead will continue to work hard to keep the game engaging and maintain its stable state.
